Guy:
Tell that to the thousands of people who got robo-sued because somebody with access to their Internet account allegedly downloaded a "bait" copyrighted porno file. There are some really nasty folks out there who are using copyright law to legally fleece people of thousands of dollars/pounds.

In the US at least, a defense against that is to tell them to sue. If they actually follow through, which is probably unlikely, you can ask for a trial by jury. In any criminal or civil matter over $20 the US Constitution guarantees your right to a jury trial. That is probably the last that you will hear about the matter. It is too expensive to go to court for minor damages from a private party.

Most people are unaware that even in small claims court you can ask for a jury trial which forces the plaintiff to go to the next higher court.

Frankly, I think that downloads should be at least an "opt-in" possibility. For example, I don't mind people downloading my stories, I only ask to not forget about my authorship and not post them further without checking with me first (however, if they try to check with me and won't get a reply for a week, they can treat that as an agreement, so my laziness/absentmindedness wouldn't punish people who tried to do the right thing).

Readers should be cautioned that with REGISTERED works there are statuatory damages and attorneys fees and that is why music and movie downloaders have been sued successfully over what may seem to be minor infractions. Just so you know.

Is there any fix or work around yet that allows you to read an entire story on kindle fire? I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks!

The LSF is intended to provide the equivalent of a cloud facility for spanking fiction, it has never been intended as a site for downloads. In addition, it's far too time consuming trying to determine what can be legally downloaded, which stories the author is happy for users to download and so on and so forth. The stance of the LSF is that we provide stories for viewing only with the permission of the author and nothing more. Anything beyond that is a matter between the individual reader and the author and if a reader feels they must have certain stories on their local devices there are two options: if the work has been published they can purchase it from the LSF Publications site or Amazon - dwnloading these stories from the LSF is a clear violation of copyright whether intended purely for private local use or not, or, if it hasn't been published, they can contact the author and ask them to email a copy.

Having investigated the situation regarding the Kindle Fire it appears that its browser uses the same buggy webkit software that the iPad uses so I've applied the same fix for Kindle Fire users that I used for the iPad. Right now, I've only applied it to stories viewed via the Latest Loaded list but later today I'll extend it to other parts of the site. Hopefully, you should now be able to scroll items within the story viewer.

I know that this topic is rather old, but has there been any change with access to the site from mobile browsers? I believe most android based systems (tablet or phone) now have access to both mobile chrome and firefox browsers. I don't know if these mobile versions are any better than the built in webkit browsers (I would hope they would be). I attempted to access the site from an android based tablet using chrome a while back and I simply got a message saying that the site wasn't accessible. I tried again today via chrome on an android phone and it did let me log into the site and view a story, but the action to close the story sometimes doesn't work (I have noticed that it sometimes doesn't work via the desktop browser as well, the click event simply doesn't get registered for some reason).

I will try again from a tablet and see if that version is any better. I have noticed in some cases firefox works better with the site (at least from the desktop firefox version).

As for kindle fire users, I am pretty sure that you can still get firefox or chrome apps for those tablets (you might have to enable installing apps from outside of the amazon store).

To address the downloading issue, I think the site does a pretty good job of attempting to protect from this. I think that the draw to wanting to download the stories here are in some part caused by the difficulties that people have with viewing the stories here offline. If more authors would be interested in providing e-book formats of their stories, this might be a good option (and also help continue to fund the site and pay back the authors in part for their contributions).

I've accessed the site using Chrome on my android device, and it works, although it's rather cumbersome. In general I find it much easier to use my laptop, which I do 98% of the time.

90% of my stories are available on books from LSF Publications, including a few in anthologies, but most in books with exclusively my own work. 100% of the proceeds are donated back to the LSF, so please take the opportunity to help support the Library.

Yes, I have done more testing and on both android based phone and tablet the site works using the android version of firefox and chrome. I find that for most things chrome appears to work best, but I still have issues at times getting the "close" function for stories to work (I also have that issue at times on PC under windows with Chrome).

In regards to the LSF Publications, I am aware that there are many authors that do publish. I just think that it would be helpful to encourage those that don't. My preferred e-reader is a kindle paperwhite which is closest to a real paper for me. I don't particularly like reading for enjoyment on my computer (particularly if I have already spent many hours reading other things for work). The kindle paperwhite is one of the more traditional e-ink readers from Amazon and while it does have an experimental browser, it doesn't work that great with sites that heavily use javascript (in fact it usually works best with images and javascript turned off). That definitely doesn't work for this site (and I don't see how it could). The Kindle Fire is more of a traditional Android based tablet with Amazon's own interface on it, so if you can get firefox or chrome, it should work just as well as any other android tablet or phone.

njrick: thanks for your response. I do try to support the authors and site (and encourage others to do so). Authors publishing ebooks also makes it possible to take these stories offline and read in a format that can be easier on the eyes.

In any case, I think it is safe to say the site while not perfect on android devices, is at least usable. Thanks to Februs for making sure that the web interface continues to work and for making the changes needed to get mobile browsers to be able to use the site.
