Another reason may be they are better writers! James Joyce touches on the subject in one of his short stories. It will have a great effect on the reader because of his skill as a writer.

Surely you're not suggesting even the possibility that Mr. Joyce may be a better author than I!

You may not be a better author; but you may be a better short, light bedtime read!

And, fortunately, your sentences tend to be much shorter.

I beg to differ! I find Finnegans Wake perfect for falling asleep!

How is it we end up comparing Rick with James Joyce? Which one of them would be the most flattered I wonder?

Try the Dubliners instead Alef! If that doesn't inspire you to stay awake then you are suffering from a terminal case of Philistinism!!

... particularly if it's the 'Dubliners' folk group!
I defy anyone to sleep through their rousing music

Fortunately it takes an immensely long time to die from Philistinism, at least according to my observations. I plan to finish Proust first, and then turn to Rick's oeuvre. I may substitute Edith Piaf for the Dubliners while reading Proust. What do the listen to over in New Jersey? Bruce Springsteen?

Perhaps that is due only to the fine work of our validators.

Wouldn't the better question be 'how would we NOT?' (Notice how I dare make this claim on a thread about 'plausibility'?)

No apologies necessary!

Believe it or not, we aren't limited to listening to homegrown music, due to modern technology.... like, for instance, the phonograph.

Now why would I be including Canadian cousins within "we"?
